S03: Lesson 03

Every therapy related to alcoholic addiction makes you call your self an addict , it’s not treating the addiction as sin .

Every addiction is a sin and we need Jesus.

Sin problem ? You need a savior. And there is only one savior for the whole world , His beautiful name is Jesus.

In this lesson we are going to learn about 7 destructive negative weapons that may present in us, due to life’s experiences and we also learn the 7 habits which we replace for overcoming every obstacle.

We follow the principle called replacing.
The principle about replacement .
Anything you want to change in your life, you don’t resist it , you replace it.

firstly, We should be free from ourselves :

We have 3 enemies , who are trying to rob our purpose of life, destroying our families, steal our blessings and dump us with fear.

They are ,

1) The world
2) Satan
3) our flesh, carnal nature

Getting free from your old nature, that is the fallen nature, and putting on new born, from above nature is the most important lesson we need to know for understanding transformation.

And now we are going to learn about

The 7 weapons of self destruction , check your life while reading them.

Weapons of self destruction are seven.

1. Shame.
2. Uncontrolled thoughts.
3. Compulsions or lust.
4. Fear
5. Hopelessness.
6. Bitterness.
7. Insecurity.

we learn from God’s word, the depth of the problem and the solution.

Romans 7 talks about  our condition, inability to overcome old self :

Romans 7 :18 – 25

18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.21 So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!

So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.We have a sinful nature , that’s the old self inside us working against us , which follows the way which is easy and convenient but not the way that is right and Godly. That verse talks about who can save, about a man, not about a system or any therapy .

And that man is Jesus Christ. Son of God. God Himself.
He is the answer to all our problems.

Romans 8 is giving us the solution:
Here are 7 Mental Habits that’ll help us overcome addictions:

Habit 1. I must remind myself daily what Jesus did for me.

This is how Holy spirit sets us free, Romans 8 :1 to 4.

Romans 8 : 1-4 New Living Translation (NLT)

Life in the Spirit
So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power[a] of the life-giving Spirit has freed you[b] from the power of sin that leads to death. The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature.[c] So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins. He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit.

verse 3 , law of Moses could not save us from old nature, keeping God’s commandments to Moses cannot save us.

Laws change outside behaviors they won’t change the inside. All self help programs changes the outside  but  inside doesn’t change.

Changing the nature of man only God can do.

Verse 4 Jesus not only paid for your sins but did all right things for you.

What happens inside you.

The way you behave is because of way you feel , and the way you feel is because of what you think.

You can’t change your behavior, you can’t change your feelings but what you think you can change.

Because you are a Christian, you can ask Holy Spirit to put thoughts in to your mind.

2nd habit: that helps to overcome addictions:

Ask Holy Spirit to give you better thoughts.
We have 2 mind sets, mind set of the old nature, mind sets of the Holy spirit.
Next verses say that.

5 Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. 6 So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.

Spirit led life promises life and peace. It’s all about the mind set , if we reject our sinful mind set and accept the mind set of Holy Spirit , you are gifted with life and peace.

3rd habit :
I realize I have the new ability to say no.

9 But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.) 10 And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God.

Galatians 5:16
Let the spirit guide you , you’ll not full fill the old nature desires.

4th mental habit: helps us to overcome
Turning my thought on God when ever I am afraid.

Romans 8 :13 says the more you walk in spirit the more you’ll be self control.
But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live.
14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.
15 So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”
16 For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.

5th mental habit: that helps overcome addictions.

Holy spirit is praying for me. God is talking to Himself about me.

Romans 8:26-27

26 And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groaning that cannot be expressed in words.
27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.
When ever I go through anything that boggles my mind I can say to myself , that Holy spirit is praying for me for this issue, right now .

6th habit: is remain myself that God is good and in control.

Romans 8:28

28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

To Overcome bitterness, we must teach ourselves that,

1.The holy spirit is praying for me.
2. God is doing all for my good.
3.God wants me to succeed.
4.God will give what I need.

7th habit:
Trust that God never stops loving me.
Will help us fight rejection the cause of insecurity.

Romans 8:38
38 nothing can ever separate us from God’s love.
